What Is Weather-on-the-Way?

Weather-on-the-Way overlays forecast weather conditions on your planned route, time-aligned to when the load is expected to be at each segment. It gives dispatchers a single view of the wind, precipitation, visibility, and temperature the crew will encounter along the corridor.

How It Works

Set the planned departure time on the route. RoadScope walks the route at the configured travel speed and queries forecast data for each segment at the projected time of arrival. The map and timeline color-code segments by condition severity.

What to Look For

  • Wind speed and gusts โ€” Critical for high-profile loads
  • Precipitation โ€” Rain, snow, freezing rain along the corridor
  • Visibility โ€” Fog or low-visibility windows
  • Temperature โ€” Freezing/thawing conditions on bridges
  • Adjusting the Plan

    If a forecast segment exceeds your operational thresholds, shift the departure time and re-run โ€” the timeline updates instantly. You can also mark a hold-window directly on the route record so the crew knows when to wait it out.

    Multi-Day Itinerary (km per day)

    In the Routes panel, pick a route (or several) and open Route Weather, then switch to Multi-day itinerary. Enter the start date, the daily start time, the km per day your crew covers and the average speed; RoadScope applies a 0.75 efficiency factor for stops and survey work. The route is split into survey days by cumulative km and each day gets a card with its date, km range, predicted start/end times, precipitation totals, AM/PM split and risk level.

  • Day boundaries appear on the map as numbered markers. Drag a marker to re-split the following days; their forecasts refresh automatically.
  • Weather pins along the route show the forecast at the predicted passage time, with the day number in the pin tooltip.
  • Several routes run back-to-back: each route starts the day after the previous one ends and day numbering continues.
  • Forecasts cover the next 14 days. Days past that horizon are listed as *beyond forecast range* instead of failing the whole report.
  • Live Radar

    The Live Radar toggle in the Routes panel draws an animated precipitation radar (RainViewer, roughly the last two hours plus a short nowcast) over the Google map. A chip on the map shows the frame time with play/pause and previous/next controls. The layer stays on while you switch routes and is available on the Google basemap only.

    In the Driver Briefing

    Weather-on-the-Way summaries are included automatically in the Driver Briefing PDF, so the driver leaves with a printed forecast aligned to their planned timeline.
