NAV Live Dispatch & Field Collaboration

Track field crews in real time, push routes to drivers, and coordinate the move from the office.

What Is NAV Live Dispatch?

NAV Live Dispatch turns RoadScope into a real-time operations console. Office dispatchers can see every active field user on a single map, push planned routes directly to the in-cab RoadScope Navigator PWA, and exchange live notes with drivers and surveyors throughout the move.

Share a Navigator Link or QR Code

Open Export to RoadScope Navigator, choose one route and the POIs to include, then generate a link or QR code. A recipient can open the link, scan the QR with the camera, or upload its image without signing in. A route with no turn guidance still loads its complete geometry and POIs. Guidance without a location is listed separately and never triggers a positioned turn alert.

During surveyed navigation, List keeps all POIs and turns in travel order. You are here marks validated progress, including a mid-route start. Position paused marks the last validated position when GPS is stale, unreliable or off route; before validation, location is unavailable. Opening List brings the marker into view once, without following every fix while you review earlier details. Browsing GPS and temporary road directions do not place this marker.

Assign Specific Routes to Collaborators

The map owner or an accepted map administrator can choose Assign route at the Configure export options step of the Navigator export dialog (use the back arrow from the QR screen). Select routes, enter any recipient email addresses or choose accepted collaborators, then set the planned date and instructions. The email identifies the sender, explains Navigator, and includes a separate route-only link for each selected route. No account is needed to open a link. Links expire 7 days after sending and can be forwarded; assignment does not grant map access. Collaborators also see their selected routes in Assigned. Email delivery outcomes are shown in the assignment list. Deleting an assignment revokes its links; downloaded copies remain usable until expiry.

Recipients sign in to Navigator and choose Load route β†’ Assigned. New assignments contain only the selected routes; older whole-map assignments keep their original scope. My routes still lists routes available through normal map permissions. Removed routes, inactive assignments and revoked access are not expanded into a whole-map assignment.

Retry a Failed Handoff

Loading failures remain visible with a Retry action. A failed URL import retains its import token, so refresh retries the same handoff. Validation and on-device storage must both succeed before the prior route is replaced. Expired or revoked links require a new link from the sender. Previously downloaded routes remain available offline.

Live Crew Presence

Live map presence is voluntary. Open a map-issued Navigator link, enter a self-reported name and cellphone, review the audience notice, then choose Start sharing after GPS permission is available. Continue without sharing keeps navigation available without an account or SMS verification. Authorized MapPro users see name, location and cellphone; Shared Map viewers see only name and location when the owner or map administrator enables the link’s live-participants setting (off by default). Person badges show the first five characters of the self-reported name. Click, tap or right-click for the full name, last update time and elapsed age. Foreground updates normally take about 5–10 seconds. After 20 seconds the marker is stale; after 60 seconds it becomes light gray and says Last known position. The last accepted position remains for up to 24 hours, then disappears. Stop sharing removes it when the server receives the request. Offline stop halts publication immediately on the device; keep Navigator open and reconnect or use Retry removal until confirmed. Pending removal is retried after a tab reload, never resumed as sharing. Locking an iPhone or backgrounding the browser may pause updates; background tracking is not guaranteed. Locations do not prove identity, route completion or transport approval.

Pushing a Route to a Driver

From the dispatch panel, pick the planned route to send, choose the surveyor from the active crew list, optionally select the POIs to include, and add a short message. The route path, its POIs, and your message are delivered to their device instantly.

Accept or Save for Later

On the driver's device, a Route Dispatched banner appears at the top of NAV showing who sent it, the route name, the message, and the POI count. The driver has two real choices:

  • Load Route β€” accepts the dispatch and switches navigation to the new route immediately
  • Save β€” stores the route and its POIs on the device for later, without interrupting the current run
  • Dismissing the banner only snoozes it for about 10 minutes β€” it is not an acknowledgement, and the dispatch stays pending.

    Dispatch Status Badges

Back in the office, the dispatch panel tracks each send live: waiting for the device, then Delivered to Device once the banner has reached the driver, then Route Accepted by Surveyor or Saved for Later depending on their choice. You always know whether the crew is driving the latest plan.

    Field Notes & Comments

Drivers and surveyors can drop geotagged comments on POIs while in the field β€” flagging unexpected conditions, capturing photos, or noting completed checks. Comments appear in the office in real time.

    Offline Resilience

NAV is a Progressive Web App with offline-first caching. Saved and accepted routes are stored on-device, so if a driver loses signal, the most recent route, POIs, and Driver Briefing remain available, and any field notes queue locally and sync when connectivity returns. Crew presence markers also report connection quality (good / fair / poor) so dispatch can tell a parked crew from one out of coverage.
